Playalong tracks

This page began during Covid lockdown as a source of play along tracks for people to use. There are several types including trombone with piano, trombones with rhythm section and trombone choir minus one. There is also a set of pieces aimed at those at a less advanced level – Grade 5 and below. Also as there are Bb treble clef parts provided any Bb instrument can use them. Some works are original but many you will recognise, hopefully! Please download and enjoy.

Trombone solo with trombone and rhythm section backing track.

Nature Boy. Written by Eden Ahbez and sung by Nat King Cole, this has a distinctly latin flavour and is scored for bones and rhythm. This Masquerade. Written by Leon Russell and sung by George Benson, amongst others, this great tune works brilliantly on bones and rhythm. Download the lead trombone part here (all clefs) and the backing track here. Four minutes long and intermediate to advanced level. The example track is above.

Trombone solo with piano backing track.

Tango-esque for trombone and piano. Tango-eque is an original piece in the style of Piazzolla with a latin flavour. Four minutes long and moderate to advanced standard. Elegy for trombone and piano. Elegy is a work originally written for horn and piano as part of an electro acoustic project. Two minutes long and moderate to advanced standard. It is traditional in a musical sense – some nice added note harmony and a smooth and lyrical solo line that leads to a satisfying climax (no rude comments please!) Trombone choir minus one.

When the Saints. An arrangement of the traditional tune for trombone quartet in a theme and variations form going through several genres from hymn to blues to rock to dixieland. Think of the Canadian Brass version of just A Closer Walk and you get the idea. We’ve Only Just begun. Sang by the Carpenters this lovely tune has been arranged for four trombones in a mellow and lyrical style – you can hear the complete track just above the title and a video here.
